Simply put, conflicts can resolved more successfully when reason and emotion are taken into account. To try to solve an emotional issue with logic alone is often very ineffective and frustrating. Rather than thinking in terms of control, think instead of other methods of influencing others such as: persuading, educating, rewarding, enticing, compromising, being a positive role model, advising, urging or [...] |

The Anger Coach Anger Educator
Certification Training Program

What does a certified Anger Management Educator do?
Teach principals of anger management to community, professional groups, and school children. This might include public schools, private schools, martial arts programs, sports coaches, parenting classes, outreach programs, summer camp programs for children and adolescents, mental hygiene programs in schools, after school programs, marriage enrichment programs, gang prevention outreach programs, senior citizens programs, driver education programs, driver-court programs, training camps, workplace continuing education programs etc.
An Anger Management Educator is focused on prevention and early intervention with high-risk individuals — and is prepared to teach persons in a non-clinical setting how to deal with their angry feelings, as well as the anger and aggression shown by others toward them. By learning and applying the eight tools of anger control, students can, in turn, educate (by example) others around them.
This is a brand new concept and, as far as we know, the only such certification on the planet. It is a trail-blazing concept wide in scope with the broader mission of promoting peace and harmony among people as an alternative to conflict, aggression, hatred, and fighting.
What educational/experience background is required to become a certified Anger Management Educator:
Just as you don’t need to be a medical doctor to educate people on medical issues (such as smoking cessation, diabetes control or weight management), similarly you don’t need to be a mental health professional to teach anger management skills. Similar to a marriage educator who teaches marriage or parenting skills, the anger educator teaches the skills needed to regulate emotions, to cope better with stress, and to resolve conflicts with others more effectively. Although many anger educators are also professionals, you don’t need to be. The main requirement to be a anger educator is a strong interest in doing so and the ability to teach the core concepts effectively to others.
What is the history of this training?
Dr Tony Fiore is a California licensed psychologist with a clinical practice in Orange and Long Beach, California. In 2002 he established the Anger Coach program (www.angercoach.com) which provides clinical services to both volunteer and court-ordered adult who needed anger management skills and tools to better deal with their lives. Soon thereafter Dr Fiore partnered with Dr. Ari Novick to form Century Anger Management (www.centuryangermanagement.com), a training and education company for professionals who wish to become certified as anger management professionals using a newly developed model of anger management created by Drs. Fiore and Novick. In the past four years, they have trained hundreds of providers across the United States (and in many other countries) in this model of anger management, known as the “eight tools model.”
As we taught more and more professional people our model of anger management, we saw a gap: no one was emphasizing anger prevention. While Century Anger Management certifies professional people to help adults and older adolescents who already have anger issues, there was no certification program for educators to teach our skills to young people and others before it becomes a clinical problem.
Hence, the concept of the anger management educator was born. Our first anger educators were owners of martial arts studios across the country, inspired by marital arts activist Tom Callos of Placerville, California. Tom felt that martial arts studios were an ideal place to teach preventative anger management because martial arts instructors have tremendous influence with young people. He saw an important mission as teaching dojo instructors how to arm students with a kind of mental self-defense that brings them peace and happiness for years to come.
Since then, we have discovered that our certification process is also very appropriate for those who wish to teach preventative anger management, but who do not need or do not wish to become certified as fully trained anger management professionals who work directly in clinical situations. This would include school teachers, home-school educators, coaches and those in charge of after-school programs.
How Do I Become Certified?
Certification requires twenty hours of instruction in two levels. Level 1 must be done online. Level 2 can be done online or with our live training option.
Level 1 - You must complete our ten hour online consumer anger management program at www.angercoachonline.com
Level 2 - is a ten hour online (distance learning) Leader’s program to teach you how to teach anger management skills to children, teens, and others.
Includes Quick Reference Guide (Teacher’s Manual) for Anger Management Educators. There are 18 lessons in the training program and the guide. Each lesson is divided into four sections, for easy and consistent review. Also includes free student booklets, and teaching wall posters.
